Forgotten Hollow: The All-New Endgame Area

Forgotten Hollow is the first major area in MapleStory Classic Worlds that exists nowhere else in MapleStory. It is a cave system tucked deep in Maple World, accessible only after a series of quests, and home to ten monsters and several NPCs that have never appeared in any version of the game before.

The lore

The Hollow was once home to a cave fairy named Zelya, who lived deep inside a network of tunnels until something pushed her, and the rest of the cave's inhabitants, toward the surface. When you arrive, Zelya is standing alone near the entrance, asking for help finding her way home. Her map has been torn to pieces by the new monsters that have moved in, and she needs you to gather the fragments.

As you go deeper, you meet Myra, an older NPC who recognizes the corrupted trees roaming the cave (Myewood and Sporewood) as her old companions. She asks you to put them down, not out of cruelty, but because she wants them to rest. The Sporewoods are undead. They didn't used to be.

Myra's quest chain eventually points you back to Grendel the Really Old in Ellinia. When you tell him the Hollow has been rediscovered, he is visibly shaken. The questline ends there for now, but it strongly implies Forgotten Hollow is the start of a bigger story that has not been revealed yet.

Grendel the Really Old has been an Ellinia NPC since 2003. The fact that the new Forgotten Hollow questline pulls him back into the spotlight is a strong signal that Nexon is connecting their new content to the original MapleStory lore in deliberate ways.

Level range

Forgotten Hollow covers roughly levels 39 through 59, making it ideal for late 2nd job and early 3rd job characters. The first quests open up at 39 (Zelya's Map). Myra's chain unlocks at 49.

The new monsters

Ten brand new regular monsters call Forgotten Hollow home, plus the area boss Rotten Mushmom. Each one is exclusive to Classic Worlds and has never appeared in any other version of MapleStory.

Best classes for grinding here

  • Magicians dominate the early Hollow. F/P Mages handle Glowshroom and the early salamanders comfortably; Cleric and Priest classes are a nightmare for the undead Rotten Mushrooms and Sporewood thanks to Heal, which damages undead.
  • Warriors can melee through the early levels but will struggle against Myewood's high magic damage without serious magic defense.
  • Zelya's Map (level 39): your introduction to the cave
  • Natural Adhesive (level 39): Raffle Petals
  • The Road Back Home (level 43): Aqumander and Echopus hunt, rewards Greater earring stat scrolls
  • Old Friends (level 49): the start of Myra's chain
  • Myra's Old Friend (level 49): connects back to Grendel the Really Old in Ellinia
